North-West Sunday Competition Grand Final Report

10 Mar by Colin Newport

Congratulations to the St Bernard’s OC Cricket Club on winning the North-West Sunday Competition Premiership for season 2025-26.

The players were provided fantastic playing conditions at St Bernard’s College with the match pitch and outfield in magnificent condition.

St Bernard’s won the toss and invited Plenty Valley to bat first.

After the loss of 2 early wickets Aaronjit Multani and Yash Balyan steadied the ship for Plenty Valley with an entertaining 3rd wicket partnership of 56, before Yash was run out on at the bowlers end on 23 with the ball flicking the bowler’s hand ricochet into the stumps.

After the fall of that wicket, Plenty Valley had difficulty in establishing any further large partnerships, ending on 9-155 off their 40 overs. Aaronjit top scored with 46. Bowling honours were shared amongst the St Bernard’s bowlers.

In reply, St Bernard’s started cautiously with an opening stand of 39, before Rayanjot Singh and Connor Portelli complied a 2nd wicket partnership of 112, which resulted in St Bernard’s recording a convincing win, finishing at 2-159 with 6 overs to spare.

Both Rayanjot and Connor batted brilliantly, Rayanjot finishing on 75no and Connor made 50.

Rayanjot Singh was awarded the ‘Best Player Medal’ taking 1-15 off 8 overs with the ball and 75no with the bat. The young Plenty Valley side battled hard in the field, but they just could not capture wickets and place pressure on the St Bernard’s batters.

Thank you to all the players who participated in this competition, the umpires who officiated across the competition and in particular our two Grand final Umpires in Michael Larcart and Nagaraj Sammeta who did an excellent job, St Bernard’s OC Cricket Club for their excellent hosting of the Grand Final.

Finally thank you to Board Member Brendan Davey who managed the Sunday Competition.
