Match report for VSDCA v VCCL Representative Game

14 Dec by Colin Newport

In our annual Representative Game today (hosted by the Port Melbourne Cricket Club) resulted in a win to the VCCL.

The VSDCA Captain (David Wildsmith) won the toss and batted on well grassed and rock-hard pitch at Port Melbourne.

After a steady opening partnership, we lost a wicket in the 20’s, and then the class of 3 outstanding batters was on display with Shakeel Ahmad 62, Sahan Perera 54 and Vaibhav Deshpande 50 playing some stylish cricket shots to all parts of the ground.

At 3-141 these 3 players had placed the VSDCA in a strong position, with the possibility of an imposing score being made, however we could not establish another significant partnership against a steady VCCL bowling attack supported by some brilliant fielding and lost 7-57 to be dismissed in the 44th over for 198.

In reply, some tight bowling saw the VCCL struggling at 7-100 however Harry Hauenstein (South Barwon CC) batting with the lower order steered the VCCL to a comfort victory finishing with 8-198 with overs to spare. Bowling honours were shared amongst the various bowlers.

The Board thanks David Wildsmith and all the players for their participation in the game, Wayne Duke (Umpire), Geoff Richardson (Game Manager), Gerry Cameron (Scorer) and thank you to Port Melbourne President Chris Sewell and all the members of his club who worked so hard on the day. They were a fantastic host club.

A final thanks to VSDCA Life Members and 200 Game Club Members who supported the day with their attendance at the ground.

We wish the VCCL all the best in their efforts to defend their National Country Championship Title in WA in January.
